Are We All "Blind"?

Have you heard of the story of when Jesus healed the man who was born blind?  In John, Chapter 9, Jesus gave sight to a man who was blind since birth.  From this miracle, Jesus gained a couple of followers but drew the negative attention of religious leaders.  The religious leaders found everything wrong with the miracle while others actually saw the miracle.

Even though the religious leaders were supposed to be, well, leaders, they were BLIND that Jesus HEALED.  The only thing that they SAW was the fact that people began to believe Jesus instead of their rules.

How are we blind in our own lives?

For those of us that have children, have they ever painted you the most beautiful picture and all you saw was the mess?

Have your children even tried to make you breakfast but all you saw were the dishes that you had to clean?

What about when our significant other does all the laundry for us but leaves the clean mountain on the bed..

What do we see?  Do we see the help and love that is being given or are we focusing on things that bother US?

It takes some serious self reflection to realize when we are in fact BLIND.  We need to ask God to heal our hearts so that we are no longer blind to the love that God gives us through those closest to us.

"Heavenly Father, I know I have been blind in many ways.  To You and my loved ones, Please shine your love into my heart so that I will no longer be blind.  Guide my actions to see the love in all things.  In Jesus name, Amen."

Let's start experiencing the love that God shines down on us through our friends and family.  Let's open our eyes to the most beautiful and fulfilling love that we will ever experience.  Let God let us see.

Who, What, When, Where, Why.....Do I Believe?

Do you believe?  (Yes I was inspired by the movie that is out entitled "Do You Believe")

It is such a simple question on the surface, but if you really want to answer it, you need to peel back many different layers.  I am still not sure how to answer the question fully.

Honestly, at first I can automatically say that yes I believe in God.  But is my belief deep enough that I understand the love that God has for me?  The answer to that is that I am still learning.  I am far from perfect, but I know that God's plan is one that I will never fully understand.  I do know that I have learned to be a little more patient and calm.  I can say that I do trust in God more.  I do know that God saves me when I most need it.  I know that He hears me at all times.

I thought of investigating my belief in God with the Five W's...

Who is God?  God is the one who sacrificed Jesus for our sins.  It is through Jesus that we have the choice to have our sins forgiven.

What does believing mean?  It means to love our enemies and to let God be the ultimate judge.

When should we believe?  24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

NOT just in church, everywhere.  When someone cuts you off in traffic, or a promotion passes you by, believe that there is a purpose to every event in your life.

Why do we believe in God?  So that we can have eternal life with God in Heaven.

Truly believing in God can be a powerful tool in living a life that truly reflects God and rests in his comfort and favor.

Now the question lies on you...Do you truly believe?

It Is OK To Be Tired

I am sure that all of us are able to relate to that simple sentence.  Some days we give so much of ourselves that we become utterly exhausted.  I know on my busiest days that my eyes even burn when I close them for just a few seconds.  Or even those days while I wait for my kids to get out of class that I doze off in the car.

If we think about it, taking care of our families is taking after Jesus.  He was and still is the ultimate caretaker.  He taught and gave even when he was weary.  Even today, He craves our love and attention yet gives us the freedom to choose our own way.  Sometimes we ignore Him and sometimes we are too busy to say hi to Him.

How do we feel when our kids, friends, or spouse forgets to say hi or they tell us that they are too busy?  Doesn't it hurt deep within?  When we feel this hurt, we should remember that we are guilty of doing the same thing to our heavenly Father.

It's OK to be tired and exhausted, but to find true refreshment is to turn to God.

"Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give your rest." Matthew 11:30

God knows we will get tired, but He wants us to know that He can provide us with the rest that we need!

So it is OK to be tired.  That means we have learned to love selflessly as God does.  But we must remember to seek out rest in God.  He knows what we need, He is just waiting for us to ask.

Ask God for rest and be refreshed with his unending love.

How To Conquer Struggles With A Smile

One word that has such a powerful meaning.  When we hear the word love, the first thoughts for me are usually of couples strolling down the beach, heart shaped chocolates, and parents hugging their children.  But there is one person that the word love hasn't been totally attached to: God.

God created us to be in loving relationships with others, but the greatest love story is the one that we have with God.  His love is always there, no matter what we do, He is waiting to comfort us and love us in ways that are hard to comprehend.

God's love is around us everyday.  In the smallest events of our lives, God is there reminding us that He loves us.

Has anyone ever paid your toll on a bridge?

Has a stranger in front of you pre-paid your coffee?

How about when someone helps you pick something up that you dropped?

Those are all works of God.  It is His little way to show us that He does see us.  God wants us to be happy.  He wants our hearts to radiate His love for us to others.  We are His instruments to spread His word and let others know about this amazing love that only God can give.

When we love others with pure intentions, we begin to love as God loves.  When we care for others, especially our families (even when our children and husbands/wives, parents, siblings, etc.) even when they do not show the love back immediately, we are doing Gods will.  Even when times are tough, we can be renewed knowing that God is waiting to give us the love we need.

Life is hard and struggles will never truly end but with God's love shining from our hearts, we can conquer those struggles with a smile.

Forgiving is Powerful Healing (Re-Post)

Forgiveness is something that is hard for anyone to do.  When someone hurts us we become angry that our boundaries were violated.  We are angry that our safety was disturbed.  From an accidental bump in the supermarket to someone close deceiving us, we become angry and our instincts crave revenge.  But is revenge really the answer?
What a Friday!!  From a personal standpoint, I am burned out.  I just ask for everyone's prayers for my family.  I wanted to re-post a earlier blog since it is something that I know that I need to do.

In the heat of the moment, revenge seems like the best idea.  We will be able to show the offender exactly how we are feeling.  We think that in hurting the offender we will feel better.  Will you really feel better by committing the same offense?  Revenge happens when we give our power to control our emotions away.  Yes we got hurt, but it isn't healthy to hold feelings of angry and hurt inside.

Getting rid of the hurt feelings and reclaiming your happiness is where the real challenge is.  We are in charge of our own feelings.  No one else is responsible for doing the healing for us.  So when we forgive, we are starting the process of healing.  We are breaking the chains of hurt that were put on us by the offender.  When we break these chains through forgiveness, we are telling the offender that they do not have power over our feelings.  It is a very powerful image to imagine.  We are saying to the offender that yes you hurt me, but from this point on I am taking back control over myself and I forgive what happened - let's move on in peace.

Wouldn't you rather go through life in peace instead of hurting and always searching for relief through revenge?  Being happier takes much less energy and draws positive people and events towards you.

Forgiving others is not easy, but when is anything worthwhile ever easy?  I challenge you to practice being forgiving.  When someone cuts you off on the freeway, instead of becoming angry, forgive them and keep driving.  If someone in your family hurts you, talk to them, hug and forgive them and move on in peace.  Embracing a lifestyle that includes forgiveness is essentially embodying what Jesus taught us.  Wouldn't you rather imitate Jesus than anyone else?

God is Waiting

"If you are too busy to pray, you are busier than God wants you to be." - Wanda E. Brunstetter

As I was preparing for what I should write about, I came across that quote in my journal.  It hit me straight in my heart.  I started thinking up all the different excuses that I have had over the years for not praying.  I remembered my top three.

I forgot...

How could I have been silly enough to forget God?  Looking back, I don't think that I truly forgot.  I think I was ashamed.  I was ashamed of my situation or I felt that I was not important enough.  But to God I am always important and he is waiting to help me, I just have to ask.  So no matter what the circumstances are, always look up and ask God for help.

I was too busy...

Exactly as in the quote, God wants us to make time for Him.  He is the most important being in our lives and we should never be too busy for him.  Even if we are running around doing a million errands an hour, we should flip the perspective and even say "Thank you God that I am healthy enough to run these errands."  Find the positive in every situation.

I can't ask God for THAT...

Have you ever felt that a prayer request wasn't good enough for God?  Or that maybe it was a selfish request?  Well the thing is that God wants to know what we feel in our hearts.  We need to be open and honest with Him about everything - after all, He already knows it all!  So if we pray,  God will answer.  It may not be in the time or way that we expect, but it will be in His  time and way.  No prayer is too small, big, or silly for God.

Prayer is our way to connect with God.  He craves our attention as much as we crave His.  There are no long distance charges, travel fees, or taxes included with prayer.  Just close your eyes (as long as you are not driving!) an reach up to God.  He is anxiously waiting to hear from you!

Wishing you faith, hope and love!!

Dancing With God

I love to dance.  Ballroom: swing, salsa, waltz.  I love it all.  I used to think dancing was funny and "not cool".  Then I took a ballroom dance class.

I fell in love with it.

Being twirled around made me feel like a princess.  Trusting and connecting with my partner taught me how to trust and how to follow.  Within that process I became stronger and also a better dancer.

When you think about it, dancing can be a metaphor to having faith in God.

Non-believers feel God is not cool and pointless.  But when they find God, they fall in love with Him.  They feel special.  They learn how to connect and trust.  They learn how to feel.

Not everyone will be up for knowing God.  But they might feel the curiosity spark by seeing someone of faith lead a truly faith-filled life.

In the act of having faith we create an example of how to live a Christ centered life.

Just as in dancing, we can not learn and teach how to dance by remaining on the sidelines.  We can see how fun dancing is by watching those who have a passion for it.  We will feel their passion and want to experience it also.

That is why we need to practice our faith and be passionate about it!  When we show how much peace and joy is brought into our lives by having faith, the example will be much farther reaching than telling someone to have faith.  When others see our joy and see how peaceful a life with Christ is, they will be drawn to it.  In having deep rooted faith, others will be able to feel God's love through us.

Passing on faith is truly an easy task.  As long as we have faith deep within our hearts and make it a part of our daily lives, we will be able to bring others to know what it is to have faith in Christ.

Wishing you faith, hope, and lots of love this week! (And maybe try ballroom dancing!)
